gmail

Gmail has now introduced another new feature to its Labs. This new feature is related to searching. To use this feature, you need to enable first the “Search Autocomplete” in your gmail account. Here’s how to do it:

1. Log-in to your Gmail account.
2. On the upper right corner, click on Settings

3. Click on Labs

gmail-labs4. Fine “Search Autocomplete” on the list.

5. Choose Enable and then save your settings.

Once you enable this feature Gmail will try to finish our query using names and email addresses of our contact list, built in Gmail sections like “Starred messages” and more advanced like “has photos” or “unread messages“.

Corke asked:

I have an HP LaserJet 2200 d printer. When I connect it (USB) to my Vista Ultimate computer, I cannot get it to print. Every time I try to print, it gives me an error. Does not say what the error is.

Coincidently, I also have a Windows XP Pro computer; the two computers are networked. When I connect the printer (USB) to the Win XP computer, it prints properly. Also, I cam print to it from either networked computer.

Any suggestions as to why it will not work when connected to the Vista machine?

The Vista computer is an HP Pavilion Media Center m8150n. The XP Computer is a Dell Latitude C840. In both cases the USB connection is to a powered USB Hub.

Solution:

Obviously, this a driver issue. Old HP laserjets are known to have problem with windows Vista. If you have problem like this, you should install the updated driver for vista which you can find here.

I was having a hard time finding the drivers for a laptop that I recently repaired. The said laptop is a Fujitsu FMV Biblo Lifebook. The exact model according to the note at the top panel is: Fujitsu FMV 6366NU4/L however the sticker at the bottom says FMV4NU3LC6. This laptop is made in Japan and I believe that it is only intended for Japanese market because all the available information on the internet is written in Nihongo (Japanese language). I spent the whole afternoon searching for the driver, fortunately I found a website that has all the needed driver for Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98SE, Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000.

I checked it with Babelfish and it is the correct driver. These drivers can also be used for MV-6400NU4/L, 6366NU4/L, 6333NU4/X, 6333NU4/W, 6333NU4/Y models of Fujitsu. There are drivers for Modem, Video card, pointing device and sound card. There are also other drivers but I can’t figure out what component it is for.

Here’s the site address:
http://www.fmworld.net/biz/fmv/support/download/1999summer/lifebook/fmv6400nu4l.html

The specifications of these Fujitsu laptop varies. If the above link doesn’t work for some reason, here are the specs/specification so you can download it in other locations or websites.

VideoCard: ATI Rage Mobility AGP (the driver will ask you to install DirectX 7, but it’s optional)
SoundCard: Yamaha DS-XG
Modem: Fujitsu LB RWModem V.90 56k
Other: Alps Pointing Device

NEO is a Philippine based computer reseller. They are selling cheaper priced laptops than other well-known brands. One problem though, If you own one and decided to do a reformat of your system, you will find yourself looking for Windows XP drivers to install. Vista systems will not have a problem.

Most of the time you can find the drivers in their official website (neo.com.ph) but sometimes you will not find the correct driver there. Instead, you can go to your laptop’s manufacturer website which is CLEVO. Just click the link and enter the model number and you’re good to go.

Problem:

When you try to connect to the internet using your 3G capable phone, an error will occur:

Packet Data: Packet data not available. Check network Services

I got this error message when I was about to try the internet surfing capability of my new Nokia phone 6120c. I decided to bought this unit because of its fast modem. I will primarily use my phone to surf the net when I’m on the road and when I’m home because I don’t have an internet connection there.

But when i tried to connect, that Packet Data error appears. After searching the internet for almost an hour, I can’t get a definitive fix for that particular error.

Solution:

1. First, you need to make sure that you already set the correct settings for your phone to connect to the internet. In my phone, there is a Settings Wizard, so I used that one. (Menu - Settings - Settings Wizard - and follow the instructions)

2. If that one didn’t solved your problem, it would be better to call a Customer Service Representative of your provider/operator and asked them to send you the settings to be able to use/connect to the internet. In my case, it’s Smart Telecom here in the Philippines, so I dialled *888. Don’t worry, it’s free. The CSR will asked for your mobile phone number and cellphone model and they will send you the settings for your particular phone.

3. Still facing the Packet Data error? This third step solved my problem. Download and install PC Suite from Nokia website, fire it up and connect your phone to your PC. In my case, when I first ran the PC Suite software, it detected that my cellular phone is missing an SMS/MMS setting (or something like that). It gave an instruction how to install this using your PC Suite. Just follow it and you will be able to surf the net the next time you connect to the internet.
